My favorites in Bb Pilipinas 2012

Before I will reveal my favorite Bb. Pilipnas for 2012 let me tell you what happened last year. The most watched beauty pageant in the Philippines is now approaching and many pageant enthusiasts are now betting their favorite candidate to win the Bb. Pilipinas- Universe who will represent the Philippines for Miss Universe 2012. Many enthusiasts said that this year is a weak batch compared to last year. Who knows the Miss Universe will choose a Filipina that is not beautiful in the eyes of Filipinos but beautiful in the eyes of the foreigners?

Since 20010 to 2011 the Philippines entered in the top 15 and not only that but they were finalists capturing the fourth runner-up in 2009 and third runner-up in 2011. These happened of course after ten years of drought. Many factors were blamed like bad styling, bad gown and less training. Luckily 2011 was the best year of the decade because all Filipinas who competed in different pageants were able to penetrate the semi-finalist position and in fact only one was not able to get a runners-up position. On the other hand the men who also compete internationally were able to enter in semi-final position. Kudos to them.

Here are my favorites for Bb. Pilipinas 2012:

Miriam Quiambao will host Binibining Pilipinas 2011

The beauty queen Miriam Quiambao will host the in coming Binibining Pilipinas this coming April 10, 2011. Miriam was 1st runner-up in 1999 Miss Universe Pageant which was held in Trinidad and Tobago. She will host along with Derek Ramsay, Precious Lara Quigaman Miss International 2005 and Charlene Gonzales 6th placer in Miss Universe 1994 which was held in Manila, Philippines.

Miriam has high hope for this years pageant because of so many beautiful and smart candidates. She said that hopefully they can select a winners out of these 40 ladies to represent the country and will bring home a crown. Miriam Quiambao also expressed herself about the four disqualified ladies before the final. She said that people have different values but they should fallow what the organization is looking for.

Miriam Quiambao
Miriam also expressed her opinion about the surprising number of disqualified contestants for this year’s Binibining Pilipinas pageant. As of press time, four candidates have been booted out reportedly because of their sexy and/or nude photos out on the Internet and in print. These four contestants are Ma. Paula Bianca Paz (who had a sexy pictorial for a calendar two years ago), Grendel Alvarado, Jen Olivar, and Roxanne CabaƱero.

“I guess some people have different values but it’s Binibining Pilipinas Charities (BPC) that holds the rules (and) that calls the shots, so whatever they say goes,” Miriam said in an interview at the Run for Home 2011 of Globe Telecommunications last March 27.

However, the beauty-queen-turned-actress continued that in some cases, a contestant might still succeed in changing the BPC’s decision to return to the competition. She cited Venus Raj for example, who was previously dethroned after she was crowned Binibining Pilipinas-Universe last year, when questions about her nationality spurred. “Kung sinuman ‘yung na-disqualify maaari nating ipaglaban kagaya ni Venus. Ipinaglaban niya, nanalo siya and then she went on to represent the country and ended up fourth place (in Miss Universe 2010).Pwede nilang ipaglaban pero in the end nasa discretion pa rin ng BPC kasi nasa kanila ang franchise.”

In her opinion Miriam explained that it is important for BPC to check the contestant’s background because the management wants to ensure the eligibility of candidates. “Ako kasi I’m not in a position to judge, it really goes for different people. However for a representative, I guess BPC has to send someone with a good moral character,” she said.

Miss World Philippines is telecast in GMA7

Miss Philippines World
Cory Quirino is happy that GMA7 has partnered with her to televised the Miss Philippines World this coming July. SM Holdings is one of the major sponsor of the event. The pageant right to select a candidate to represent Philippines in the Miss World Pageant was awarded to Cory Quirino by Julia Morley and in fact she went to the Philippines to gave the franchise.

The winner for this pageant will receive One Million Pesos, a brand new condo unit and the right to represent the country for Miss World Pageant. This is the first time that a national pageant in the Philippines will give more than a million peso price. I hope other organization will follow to encourage more beautiful ladies to join.

Here is the news about Miss Philippines World:

Opisyal nang pumirma ang beauty and wellness guru at Chairwoman and CEO of CQ Global Quest na si Cory Quirino with GMA-7 bilang official TV network partner ng Miss World-Philippines 2011.

Naganap ang contract signing between Cory and GMA executives Mr. Jimmy Duavit (Executive Vice President and COO) and Ms. Wilma Galvante (Senior Vice-President for Entertainment Television) noong nakaraang Martes, March 22, sa boardroom ng GMA Network Center.

"They only gave me three minutes to decide if I want it or not!" natatawang pagbabalik-tanaw ni Cory sa panayam sa kanya ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

"It was only in January of this year that Ms. Julia Morley talked with me with regards to the Miss World franchise. They really asked for me and they wanted an immediate answer if I would agree to handle the Miss World franchise.

"Like I said, they only gave me three minutes. Since I [only] had that short of a time time, I prayed to the Lord for a sign. Should I accept it or not? I immediately got an answer kaya hindi pa tapos ang three minutes, I said yes to them.

"I know that this will be a big challenge on my part. I've worked with many people before but this is the first time that I will embark in a national pageant. It's nerve-wracking but I accept the challenge. I know that God will always be there for me and guide me through everything."

Nakausap ng PEP si Cory sa formal launch ng Miss World-Philippines 2011 last Wednesday, March 23, sa SMDC Grand Showroom sa SM Mall of Asia Complex.

FORMAL TURNOVER.

"God is so good talaga. I never expected that it will all happen so fast. Parang kelan lang na kinausap nila ako for the handling of the franchise and we had a successful turnover.

"Then last Tuesday lang, official TV network na ng Miss World-Philippines ang GMA-7. If all of these are not God's work, I don't know what it is.

"Naniniwala kasi ako na kung hindi para sa iyo, hindi magaganap. But all of these blessings are coming in and I have nothing else to say kundi amen. Everything is really coming from God."

RIVALRY WITH BPCI. Ipinapanalangin ni Cory na hindi maaapektuhan ang pagkakaibigan niya with the people of Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. sa paghawak niya ng Miss World-Philippines.

"I pray na walang mangyaring gano'n because I've been friends with Ms. Stella Marquez-Araneta for a very long time. And the rest of the people of BPCI. I just want people to know na trabaho lang ito. Nothing personal at all.

"In fact, I've already reached out to them noong in-offer sa akin ang franchise. That was also noong nakaraang January. I called their office, pero wala raw doon si Mrs. Araneta. So I left a message kung puwede ba kaming mag-usap over dinner because of these things happening. But I never received a reply from anyone up to this day.

"It's okay naman because that's the way it is. Sabi nga ng iba, business lang ito. And no one should take it personally.

"Ako naman, if they are willing to still talk with me, I'm always open para sa kanila. I will still wait for that reply from them."

FORMAL LAUNCH. Dinaluhan ito ng maraming designers, stylists, talent scouts, press and media people, at former title holders tulad nila Maria Isabel Lopez (Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 1982), Simonette delos Reyes (Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 1970), at Maggie Wilson-Consunji (Bb. Pilipinas-World 2007).

Ani Cory, "I'd like to thank the people who came to the launch. Halos lahat ng mga inimbita namin ay dumating. I am overwhelmed by it all. Everyone is happy that we have this new pageant and it will be aired on GMA-7.

"I would personally like to thank the people of the Kapuso Network for really giving this a chance. Hindi nila ako pinahirapan. Umoo kaagad sila sa request ko. Pangako nga nila, they will do what's best for Miss World-Philippines. Kaya naman sobra ang pasasalamat ko sa kanilang suporta."

Ang magwawagi ng titulong Miss World-Philippines 2011 ay makakatanggap ng cash prize na P1 million at isang brand new condominium unit courtesy of SMDC.

Open na ang applications for Miss World-Philippines at puwede nang mag-download ng application form sa http://www.missworldphilippines.com or pumunta nang personal sa kanilang office sa Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

This April na ang simula ng screening of applicants (from Metro Manila and from other regions) hanggang June 15, 2011.

Miss Universe 1974 Amparo Munoz Died

Miss Universe 1974 Amparo Munoz died peacefully in her home in Malaga, Spain. It can be recall that Miss Amparo Munoz is the representative of Spain when the Miss Universe was held in the Philippines for the first in 1974 during the Marcos Regime. Her runner-up that time was Miss Wales who go on to become the Miss World of that year only to be dethroned later when she was found out to be an unwed mother.

Amparo Munoz resigned later as the Miss Universe in 1974 after six months but she was not replaced like what happened in 2002 when Miss Russia was sacked and replaced by Miss Panama. Later Amparo Munoz enter showbiz and became popular in her country Spain. She is the only and first Spaniard Miss Universe. She made one movies in the Philippines with Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz.

Later in life many rumors came out that she became a porno star and that she died 10 decades ago because of sexual disease. She was also rumored to be a drug dependent but all of these were vehemently denied by Amparo.  Lately she was very sick and wanted to be alone in her home refusing to be interviewed by the press. According to her brother she suffered a brain disease.

Why Binibining Pilipinas Lost the Miss World Franchise?

We all knew that the Bb. Pilipinas will no longer select a candidate for Miss World because Julia Morley award it to Cory Quirino the wellness Guru. Miss World 2011 Miss Alexandria Mills and her runner up with Chairwoman of the board Julia Morley is here in the Philippines to personally award the franchise to Miss Cory Quirino. Ruffa Guiterez and Evangeline Pascual was also present during the ceremony in Shang-rila .

Here is an article that said why Morley want her pageant to be separated from Binibining Pilipinas:

A separate Miss World-Philippines search
By Patricia Esteves (The Philippine Star) Updated January 26, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (0)

MANILA, Philippines - Starting this year, a Bb. Pilipinas-World crown will no longer be among the top three plums in the iconic Bb. Pilipinas pageant. There will be a separate search for Miss World Philippines, the winner of which will represent the country in the Miss World contest.

Julia Morley, chairman and CEO of Miss World Limited, arrived on Monday to announce the awarding of the exclusive licensee agreement of Miss World Philippines to media personality and wellness guru Cory Quirino who will take charge of the first Miss World Philippines tilt this August.

In a press conference at the Shangri-La Makati yesterday, Morley said they made the move so they can focus on their socio-civic projects and raise more funds for poor beneficiaries in the Philippines, particularly the PGH Medical Foundation and Tuloy Street Children Foundation.

“The job of Miss World is always for fund-raising. The crown is a symbol of fund-raising. Our aim, our vision at Miss World is always ‘Beauty with a Purpose.’ What is a crown without a purpose?’” explained Morley who is in Manila for the first time since Miss World was established in 1951.

Also present at the presscon were reigning Miss World Alexandria Mills (of USA), 2010 Miss World first runner-up Emma Wareus, 1973 Miss World first runner-up Evangeline Pascual and 1993 Miss World Second Princess Ruffa Gutierrez.

Morley clarified that she has no intention to offend or rile Madame Stella Marquez Araneta, head of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) in the decision to hold an individual Miss World contest. She reiterated that her primary reason to separate is to focus more on their vision to raise funds for their beneficiaries and they can do this if they hold a separate contest.

2010 Miss World Alexandria Mills (of USA): Beauty with a purpose “The truth is I needed to give the Philippines as many opportunities. We need to raise funds for poor and sick at the PGH for their ventilation, the antibiotics, more medical equipment. The thing is I want to be involved. I can’t do that if we don’t have an individual contest. I don’t have a voice here before and now I want to be involved, I want to be connected. We have big plans to raise money for the children,” said Morley.

She said her heart bled when she paid a visit to the PGH and saw the miserable conditions of the children, particularly a scene when a nurse was operating a manual ventilator to an asthma patient.

“The thing is I don’t want to battle with anyone. This is not a fight, there is no dispute. We will always honor other beauty contests. I know that during the time that Stella ran the tilt with Miss World, she’s done a good job. But now, I would like to have my own contest so I can be more involved. I want my own brand and not be lumped with other people. I want to stand alone for Filipino children.”

She expressed hope that Madame Araneta will not take offense.

“She has three or four titles and if she’s got one less to worry about, then it’d be good. I don’t want to be childish or selfish. There are too many nasty things in the world. Being negative is not good for the people.”Morley also said the awarding of the license was a highlight of her world tour, calling it a momentous occasion for Miss World organizers.

The organization is currently celebrating its 60thyear of “Beauty with a Purpose” and has raised more than $400M in support of children’s charities across the globe since its inception.

“The Philippines is a great country and has the most beautiful places so we’d be excited if we can hold it here,” she said.

Quirino, for her part, said accepting the offer was the greatest decision of her life.

“We are entering into a new era of pageants, in keeping with our mission and values. With more than 15 years as an officer serving Rotary International Districts 3818 and 3830, I have found the focus on community development by the organizers of Miss World congruent with my continuing advocacies,” Quirino said. “It’s my commitment to be a catalyst for women and children’s health, development and empowerment. Socio-civic undertakings will be a core activity of Miss World Philippines.”

Applicants to the Miss World Philippines must be 17 to 24 years old, tall, has a big heart for service, has beauty, intelligence and love for her country.

miss earth 2010

Miss Earth-Air was crowned by Sandra Siefert who was Miss Earth-air 2009. Karla Paula Henry who won Miss Earth 2008 was one of the judges. Many pageant experts were satisfied with the set of winners than other grand slam pageant results though the production was not very entertaining compared to Miss Universe but in my own openion every pageant is unique so why copy the other pageant.

Ronan Keating was the invited entertainer guess who do not know about Miss Earth. Miss Earth 2011 will still be held in Vietnam next year.

Nicole Faria is the first crowned queen from India after 10 years and a first from India to be crowned as Miss Earth.
