Farley Granger dead at 85

Farley Granger is known for the movie "Rope". I watched this film many times and I am amazed by his performance. He was also a good looking guy later on I found out that he is gay.

Farley Granger
NEW YORK – Farley Granger, the 1950s bobby sox screen idol who starred in the Alfred Hitchcock classics "Rope" and "Strangers on a Train," has died. He was 85.
Granger died Sunday of natural causes, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the New York City medical examiner's office.
Granger, who died at his Manhattan home, was an overnight Hollywood success story. He was a 16-year-old student at North Hollywood High School when he got the notion that he wanted to act and joined a little theater group.
Talent scouts for movie mogul Samuel Goldwyn saw the handsome youngster and signed him to a contract. His first movie was "The North Star" in 1943, a World War II story that starred Anne Baxter and Dana Andrews.
"It was one of those miracle careers," he said. "I had no talent and no training whatsoever and suddenly I was thrown ... (in) with Walter Huston, Erich von Stroheim, Anne Baxter, Ann Harding and Walter Brennan."
A decade later, at the height of his Hollywood stardom, he walked away from it to really learn his craft. He spent the rest of his career in a mix of movies, television and stage work.
Granger was born on July 1, 1925, in San Jose, Calif., where his father was a car dealer. The business went bust during the Depression and in 1933 the family moved to Los Angeles where he was subsequently spotted.
His career halted for U.S. Navy service during World War II — "I was chronically seasick." But when he was mustered out he returned to Hollywood and the Goldwyn publicity machine.
"Goldwyn firmly believed in big hype and hoopla for his stars, so he'd publicize me in projects that were never even written just to get space in the fan magazines," Granger once recalled.
The magazines ran pictures of Granger in swim trunks cavorting with such stars as Debbie Reynolds, Ann Blyth and Jane Powell. But he said the only serious romance he had with a woman was with Shelley Winters.
In the 2007 memoir "Include Me Out," written with his partner Robert Calhoun, Granger says he was bisexual.
He writes about a Honolulu night that epitomized his life. A 21-year-old virgin and wartime Navy recruit, he was determined to change his status. He did so with a young and lovely female prostitute. He was about to leave the premises when he ran into a handsome Navy officer. Granger was soon in bed again.
"I lost my virginity twice in one night," he writes.
His lifelong romance with Winters was "very much a love affair."
"It evolved into a very complex relationship, and we were close until the day she died," he said in a 2007 interview with The Associated Press.
A briefer affair with Ava Gardner began when both quarreled with their dates at a Hollywood Christmas party. "We met at the bar and left together," he recalled in the interview. "It was a short but pretty intense and enormously fun affair."
He also writes about his same-sex celebrity affairs. For a time, he lived with Arthur Laurents, writer of the stage and movie versions of "West Side Story" and "Gypsy." In New York, Granger says he had a two-night fling with Leonard Bernstein.
Granger made "Rope" in 1948 and "Strangers on a Train" in 1951. In the latter, based on the classic novel by Patricia Highsmith, he played a tennis star who meets a man on a train. The other man, played by Robert Walker, turns out to be a psychotic who proposes that each of them murder the other's troublesome relative. He tells Granger's character, "Some people are better off dead — like your wife and my father, for instance."
Walker's character proceeds to carry out his part of the bargain, killing the tennis star's estranged wife and trapping the Granger character in an ever-tightening circle of suspicion.
Beside the two Hitchcock thrillers, Granger appeared in "They Live By Night," "Roseanna McCoy," "Side Street," "The Story of Three Loves," "Edge of Doom" and "Hans Christian Andersen."
But he wasn't happy with most of the films he was offered. "I was on suspension most of the time for turning down scripts," he recalled. Finally, in 1953, he effectively fired his boss and headed for New York.
"I bought out my contract from Goldwyn, which had two years to go. It took every penny I had. It helped that I didn't live a big fancy life, that I'd saved my money for a rainy day. Because that was a rainy day.
"I left Hollywood because I didn't know my craft," he said. "I was a star, but I knew nothing of the techniques of acting. I figured I'd better learn or I'd be in trouble when the star aspects of my career wore off."
In New York, he studied with Stella Adler, Lee Strasberg and Sanford Meisner, among the top and most famous acting coaches.
"What saved my life then was live television, the so-called Golden Age of television drama," Granger said. "I did a lot of it and loved it. Most movie actors were afraid to go into live TV because they weren't used to it. I had to, just to make a living, but I also wanted to because it was the closest thing to theater."
He made his Broadway debut in 1960 in "First Impressions," a musical version of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice." He later did two years with Eva Le Gallienne's repertory troupe and a considerable stint as the lead in the long-running thriller "Deathtrap."
Granger continued to make films over the years, including "The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing," "The Serpent," "The Man called Noon," "The Imagemaker" and "The Whoopee Boys." He made several movies in Italy including Luchino Visconti's "Senso."
He also appeared in several daytime soaps, including "As the World Turns," "Edge of Night" and "One Life to Live," for which he received a Daytime Emmy nomination.
But he said he preferred the stage: "I feel I'm much more relaxed in front of an audience than a camera. I feel the response. The live audience really turns me on and I like it.

Angel Locsin and Phil Younghusband of Azkals are seen dating but they react when ask if they dated regularly. Angel Locsin is the star of Immortals which is currently shown in ABS-CBN. Actually it all started on twitter when Phil was inviting her and KC Concepcion for a date but KC is now engaged with Piolo Pascual.

Here is the news about Angel and Phil Younghusband:

Last Sunday ay mabilis na kumalat ang balitang spotted daw magka-date sina Angel Locsin at Phil Younghusband that same day sa isang restaurant.

“It was nice,” natatawang sagot ng Azkals striker. “Did we?” natatawang sagot pa rin ni Phil.

Miriam Quiambao will host Binibining Pilipinas 2011

The beauty queen Miriam Quiambao will host the in coming Binibining Pilipinas this coming April 10, 2011. Miriam was 1st runner-up in 1999 Miss Universe Pageant which was held in Trinidad and Tobago. She will host along with Derek Ramsay, Precious Lara Quigaman Miss International 2005 and Charlene Gonzales 6th placer in Miss Universe 1994 which was held in Manila, Philippines.

Miriam has high hope for this years pageant because of so many beautiful and smart candidates. She said that hopefully they can select a winners out of these 40 ladies to represent the country and will bring home a crown. Miriam Quiambao also expressed herself about the four disqualified ladies before the final. She said that people have different values but they should fallow what the organization is looking for.

Miriam Quiambao
Miriam also expressed her opinion about the surprising number of disqualified contestants for this year’s Binibining Pilipinas pageant. As of press time, four candidates have been booted out reportedly because of their sexy and/or nude photos out on the Internet and in print. These four contestants are Ma. Paula Bianca Paz (who had a sexy pictorial for a calendar two years ago), Grendel Alvarado, Jen Olivar, and Roxanne Cabañero.

“I guess some people have different values but it’s Binibining Pilipinas Charities (BPC) that holds the rules (and) that calls the shots, so whatever they say goes,” Miriam said in an interview at the Run for Home 2011 of Globe Telecommunications last March 27.

However, the beauty-queen-turned-actress continued that in some cases, a contestant might still succeed in changing the BPC’s decision to return to the competition. She cited Venus Raj for example, who was previously dethroned after she was crowned Binibining Pilipinas-Universe last year, when questions about her nationality spurred. “Kung sinuman ‘yung na-disqualify maaari nating ipaglaban kagaya ni Venus. Ipinaglaban niya, nanalo siya and then she went on to represent the country and ended up fourth place (in Miss Universe 2010).Pwede nilang ipaglaban pero in the end nasa discretion pa rin ng BPC kasi nasa kanila ang franchise.”

In her opinion Miriam explained that it is important for BPC to check the contestant’s background because the management wants to ensure the eligibility of candidates. “Ako kasi I’m not in a position to judge, it really goes for different people. However for a representative, I guess BPC has to send someone with a good moral character,” she said.

Miss World Philippines is telecast in GMA7

Miss Philippines World
Cory Quirino is happy that GMA7 has partnered with her to televised the Miss Philippines World this coming July. SM Holdings is one of the major sponsor of the event. The pageant right to select a candidate to represent Philippines in the Miss World Pageant was awarded to Cory Quirino by Julia Morley and in fact she went to the Philippines to gave the franchise.

The winner for this pageant will receive One Million Pesos, a brand new condo unit and the right to represent the country for Miss World Pageant. This is the first time that a national pageant in the Philippines will give more than a million peso price. I hope other organization will follow to encourage more beautiful ladies to join.

Here is the news about Miss Philippines World:

Opisyal nang pumirma ang beauty and wellness guru at Chairwoman and CEO of CQ Global Quest na si Cory Quirino with GMA-7 bilang official TV network partner ng Miss World-Philippines 2011.

Naganap ang contract signing between Cory and GMA executives Mr. Jimmy Duavit (Executive Vice President and COO) and Ms. Wilma Galvante (Senior Vice-President for Entertainment Television) noong nakaraang Martes, March 22, sa boardroom ng GMA Network Center.

"They only gave me three minutes to decide if I want it or not!" natatawang pagbabalik-tanaw ni Cory sa panayam sa kanya ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

"It was only in January of this year that Ms. Julia Morley talked with me with regards to the Miss World franchise. They really asked for me and they wanted an immediate answer if I would agree to handle the Miss World franchise.

"Like I said, they only gave me three minutes. Since I [only] had that short of a time time, I prayed to the Lord for a sign. Should I accept it or not? I immediately got an answer kaya hindi pa tapos ang three minutes, I said yes to them.

"I know that this will be a big challenge on my part. I've worked with many people before but this is the first time that I will embark in a national pageant. It's nerve-wracking but I accept the challenge. I know that God will always be there for me and guide me through everything."

Nakausap ng PEP si Cory sa formal launch ng Miss World-Philippines 2011 last Wednesday, March 23, sa SMDC Grand Showroom sa SM Mall of Asia Complex.

FORMAL TURNOVER.

"God is so good talaga. I never expected that it will all happen so fast. Parang kelan lang na kinausap nila ako for the handling of the franchise and we had a successful turnover.

"Then last Tuesday lang, official TV network na ng Miss World-Philippines ang GMA-7. If all of these are not God's work, I don't know what it is.

"Naniniwala kasi ako na kung hindi para sa iyo, hindi magaganap. But all of these blessings are coming in and I have nothing else to say kundi amen. Everything is really coming from God."

RIVALRY WITH BPCI. Ipinapanalangin ni Cory na hindi maaapektuhan ang pagkakaibigan niya with the people of Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. sa paghawak niya ng Miss World-Philippines.

"I pray na walang mangyaring gano'n because I've been friends with Ms. Stella Marquez-Araneta for a very long time. And the rest of the people of BPCI. I just want people to know na trabaho lang ito. Nothing personal at all.

"In fact, I've already reached out to them noong in-offer sa akin ang franchise. That was also noong nakaraang January. I called their office, pero wala raw doon si Mrs. Araneta. So I left a message kung puwede ba kaming mag-usap over dinner because of these things happening. But I never received a reply from anyone up to this day.

"It's okay naman because that's the way it is. Sabi nga ng iba, business lang ito. And no one should take it personally.

"Ako naman, if they are willing to still talk with me, I'm always open para sa kanila. I will still wait for that reply from them."

FORMAL LAUNCH. Dinaluhan ito ng maraming designers, stylists, talent scouts, press and media people, at former title holders tulad nila Maria Isabel Lopez (Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 1982), Simonette delos Reyes (Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 1970), at Maggie Wilson-Consunji (Bb. Pilipinas-World 2007).

Ani Cory, "I'd like to thank the people who came to the launch. Halos lahat ng mga inimbita namin ay dumating. I am overwhelmed by it all. Everyone is happy that we have this new pageant and it will be aired on GMA-7.

"I would personally like to thank the people of the Kapuso Network for really giving this a chance. Hindi nila ako pinahirapan. Umoo kaagad sila sa request ko. Pangako nga nila, they will do what's best for Miss World-Philippines. Kaya naman sobra ang pasasalamat ko sa kanilang suporta."

Ang magwawagi ng titulong Miss World-Philippines 2011 ay makakatanggap ng cash prize na P1 million at isang brand new condominium unit courtesy of SMDC.

Open na ang applications for Miss World-Philippines at puwede nang mag-download ng application form sa http://www.missworldphilippines.com or pumunta nang personal sa kanilang office sa Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

This April na ang simula ng screening of applicants (from Metro Manila and from other regions) hanggang June 15, 2011.

Donald Trump has doubt about Obama was born in United States

Donald Trump
Donald Trump has a doubt that President Barack Obama was born in United States particularly in Hawaii because he said that nobody could remember him until late when he was a grown up man. Donald felt strange that nobody new Obama as a child in Hawaii. You can't run as a president in United states if you are not naturally born in such country.

Donald Trump is more serious about his intention to run for president under Republican Party in 2012. He said that if he will not be nominated in the party and he will run independently. Donald Trump is a billionaire and he think that it make him beautiful.

Here is an interview about current issues and strategy if hi will become the next president.

Donald Trump, who says he's weighing a run for president next year, waded into the "birther" controversy this week, telling ABC's"Good Morning America" that he has "a little doubt" that Barack Obama was born in the United States.

The reason? Trump said he finds it strange that "nobody knew" Obama as a young child in Hawaii.

"Let me tell you . . . if I got the nomination, if I decide to run, you may go back and interview people from my kindergarten. They'll remember me. [With Obama,] nobody comes forward. Nobody knows who he is until later in his life. It's very strange."

Birther proponents claim Obama cannot constitutionally serve as president because he isn't a natural born citizen. In 2008, the Obama campaign produced a certification of live birth showing he was born in Honolulu, and Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie has said he was a friend of Obama's parents and remembers when the future president was born -- but none of that has placated birthers.

On other matters, the always outspoken Trump didn't hold back.

- On his intentions to run for president: "I have never been so serious as I am now." (After the interview, reporter Ashleigh Banfield said Trump told her that he would consider running as an independent if he didn't win the GOP nomination.)

- On his willingness to spend $600 million of his own money on a campaign: "Part of the beauty of me is that I'm very rich."

- On the turmoil in Libya: He called for a "surgical strike" to take out Moammar Gadhafi.

- On Somali pirates: "Give me an admiral and a couple ships. I would wipe them out of the sea so fast."

- On China: "While we spend billions of dollars a week on being policeman for the world, China is spending billions a day taking over the world economically. That's not a good formula for us."

- On Charlie Sheen: "I know Charlie Sheen . . . he's wonderful, but he's a disaster."

Who is Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor is perhaps the most beautiful actress in Hollywood while Marilyn Monroe is the sexiest. But who is really Elizabeth Taylor? We knew her as the best friend of Michael Jackson, as humanitarian being and who married eight times. Well here is an article about the last star in Hollywood.

Elizabeth Taylor
Taylor's legendary beauty preceded her first films. According to legend, a talent scout spotted her playing as a child and tried to interest her mother in putting her up for the role of Bonnie Blue Butler in Gone with the Wind (1939). She started dancing at three in her native London, where she performed in a recital for Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. When World War II started, her art dealer father sent the girl and her mother to California to escape the Blitz.

She made her big-screen debut opposite "Our Gang" star Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer in There's One Born Every Minute (1942).Her first Metro film was Lassie Come Home (1943), which started a lifelong friendship with co-star Roddy McDowall.Taylor worked out for months to win the role of Velvet Brown in National Velvet (1944), a project that years earlier had been planned for Katharine Hepburn. The critical and box-office success made it clear that Taylor was a very special child indeed.

Taylor's first grown-up roles were mainly built around her beauty. All she had to do was look good while Robert Taylor fought for her honor in Ivanhoe (1952) or Stewart Granger tried to make his fortune in Beau Brummell (1954). But the talents that had made National Velvet so successful were still there, waiting for the right vehicle. She found one such part when MGM loaned her to Paramount for A Place in the Sun (1951). Taylor realized how much she wanted to be respected as an actress, and such hints of a more mature approach to her work can be seen in Rhapsody (1954), in which she plays an heiress involved with the classical music world, and Elephant Walk (1954), as a plantation owner's wife torn between her husband and his plantation manager. The film made her more beautiful than ever, which may have blinded critics to the quality of her work.

Taylor took another stab at a Tennessee Williams adaptation, co-starring with Clift and Katharine Hepburn in Suddenly, Last Summer (1959). The film brought her third Oscar® nomination. 20th Century-Fox had offered her the title role in their epic Cleopatra (1963), prompting her to jokingly demand $1 million, the highest fee ever paid an actor at that time. When they compromised on $750,000 and a percentage, she couldn't say, "No." But she still owed MGM one more film. With no time to turn anything down, they stuck her in Butterfield 8 (1960), a turgid adaptation of John O'Hara's novel about a high-priced call girl. When the studio screened it for her, she threw a drink at the screen. Still, she gave a respectable performance and won her fourth Oscar® nomination in as many years.

The Sandpiper (1965), a turgid romance with bohemian artist Taylor falling for married priest Burton, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), are their best film together. Her searing performance brought her a second Oscar®, and this time she could feel that it was deserved.

When it came to her work with HIV/AIDS-related charities, including the American Foundation for AIDS Research, better known as amfAR, and her own Elizabeth Taylor HIV/AIDS Foundation, the actress was an unstoppable force committed to doing all she could to see the public educated about the realities of the disease.

Taylor took a major personal risk in speaking out on the issue of HIV/AIDS in the mid-1980s, long before then-President Ronald Reagan ever spoke on the issue and years before it became a fashionable cause to support.Dame Taylor was an icon not only in Hollywood, but in the LGBT community, where she worked to ensure that everyone was treated with the respect and dignity we all deserve. After her good friend Rock Hudson died from complications from AIDS, Taylor, alongside Dr. Michael S. Gottlieb, created the National AIDS Research Foundation in Los Angeles, which merged with the New York-based AIDS Medical Foundation in September 1985 to become amfAR, securing and raising funds for HIV/AIDS research, expanding access to care and treatment for all AIDS patients and protecting the civil rights of those living with the disease, and has raised nearly $325 million to fund its multifaceted mission.

Taylor testified before Congress to ensure Senate support for the Ryan White CARE Act of 1990, which continues to be a primary source of federal funding for HIV/AIDS programs nationwide, and in 1991, started The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation to complement amfAR's work as well as provide more direct AIDS-related

Elizabeth Taylor the legendary actress died

Elizabeth Taylor
The world mourns with the passing of Hollywood film legend and icon of beauty, Elizabeth Taylor - the violet-eyed film legend whose sultry screen persona, stormy personal life and enduring fame and glamour made her one of the last of the classic movie stars and a template for the modern celebrity. I first heard of this remarkable woman from my mom who used to tell me great things about her. That she was considered as the most beautiful woman of her time and that no other woman fits the role of the equally iconic woman Cleopatra other than the stunning Elizabeth.

As told by her son, Michael Wilding, ''My mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love. We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts."

Thank you Elizabeth for sharing to the world your extraordinary grace, unbelievable talent, and incomparable beauty. You taught us that beauty alone cannot stand on its own. It must be coupled with substance, the compassion to help, and perseverance to triumph against any adversities be it on a personal level or of public interest. Your legacy lives on.

Let us try to relive the colorful and intriguing life of this incredible human being named Elizabeth Taylor.

Melai Cantiveros Changes makes Jason Francisco Happy

I am not a fan of these two persons who became famous after PBB although I saw some of the episode of this show a couple of years ago. Melai won the contest while Jason Francisco was third placer. The second place was Paul Jake Castillo from Cebu City and from a rich family. After the PBB Melai Contiveros and Jason Francisco became famous and they become a couple too. Melai is a natural comic lady while Jason is typical provincial lad.

Right now their relationship is going strong and also they have an afternoon show in ABS-CBN channel. Francisco is happy about Melai changes like how to make herself beautiful. He said that she is now aware and know hoe to apply make-up, straighten her hair and so on. He also happy that his girlfriend is still humble and down to earth even after they finished the PBB.

Here is the article about this taken from ABS-CBN website:

Ever since their Pinoy Big Brother Double Up stint, Jason Francisco and Melai Cantiveros’s relationship has been going strong, with the couple currently working together on the daily afternoon series Precious Hearts romances Presents: Mana Po. The 23-year-old actor from Mindoro admitted that he was nervous about headlining the show at first, but he gained more confidence after he did some preparations for it. “Siguro naman ready na kami kasi nag-workshop naman kami kaya medyo siguro nahinog din. Pinaghirapan naming ng todo para malabas namin yung gusto ng mga director,” he said.

Although he admitted that he misses working with her on other shows, Jason said they had to take a more serious approach when they started taping for PHR Presents: Mana Po. Masyadong madrama dito eh. Mahirap din yung mga English English at mag-pronounce kaya nakakahiya ‘pag nagkakamali,” he said.

Ever since they left PBB, Jason said he has noticed a lot of positive changes in his girlfriend. “Ang natuwa akong pagbabago niya is yung marunong na siya mag-ayos. Kasi dati hindi talaga yan nag-aayos sa sarili niya. Kahit anong gawin ko. Ngayon, marunong na siya mag-ayos, mag-makeup at manamit. Masaya ako dun kasi yun yung klase ng pagbabago na gusto ko eh. ‘Di ba ‘pag may girlfriend ka, ayaw mo naman na hindi maayos itsura? Dati kasi magulo yan sa buhok eh. Yung buhok niya gusto ko lagi maayos,” he explained.

But Jason clarified that this doesn’t mean he wants Melai to totally change how she looks. “Yung kulot siya, gusto ko. Eh ngayon, iba na yung buhok niya. Kasi lagi ng tinutuwid. Okay lang na ganun kasi kumukulot pa rin naman yan. Mamaya-maya kulot na ulit yun ‘pag nabasa,” he added.

When it comes to character, Jason said he is proud of how Melai did not let their growing fame inflate her ego.

After recently giving Melai a ring for their anniversary, Jason is hopeful that their relationship will remain steadfast despite the intrigues that come with being in showbiz. “Sana lang. Sana mas maging stronger pa kami kasi napakahirap ng ating kinatatayuan na lugar. Medyo masikip ito. Alam nila lahat kaya magulo. Pero sana hanggang ngayon magiging matibay pa rin kami. Kasi one year na kami sa showbiz,” he said.

Miss Universe 1974 Amparo Munoz Died

Miss Universe 1974 Amparo Munoz died peacefully in her home in Malaga, Spain. It can be recall that Miss Amparo Munoz is the representative of Spain when the Miss Universe was held in the Philippines for the first in 1974 during the Marcos Regime. Her runner-up that time was Miss Wales who go on to become the Miss World of that year only to be dethroned later when she was found out to be an unwed mother.

Amparo Munoz resigned later as the Miss Universe in 1974 after six months but she was not replaced like what happened in 2002 when Miss Russia was sacked and replaced by Miss Panama. Later Amparo Munoz enter showbiz and became popular in her country Spain. She is the only and first Spaniard Miss Universe. She made one movies in the Philippines with Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz.

Later in life many rumors came out that she became a porno star and that she died 10 decades ago because of sexual disease.
